SIR: In compliance with the requirements of the 9th section of the act of April 20, 1818, (3 Statutes, 447) and the 11th section of the act of August 26, 1842, (5 Statutes, 525) I transmit, herewith, a statement giving "the names of the clerks and other persons" employed in this office during the year 1854, the time each was employed, and the amount paid to each. The buisness of this office has required all the persons named to be usefully employed; nor can the number be diminished without detriment to the public service.
